Your results will also include information about how you personally respond to particular medications in terms of both side-effects and overall effectiveness. This area of genetics is called pharmacogenomics. The results will cover your gene-drug interaction for 12 medications such as beta blockers (used to treat heart conditions), warfarin (a blood thinner), clopidogrel (used to treat blood clots), statins (used to treat high cholesterol) and eight other important medications, used to treat conditions like infections, pain, epilepsy and cancer. Whether you are taking any of these medications now or simply want to be prepared for the future, you and your doctor can use your genetic information to avoid potential problems and choose medications that are right for you.
