Cardiovascular Risk Assessment
This service can be added to your Comprehensive Health Assessment. It can also be included in an Executive Health Program.
Nearly 20% of patients with coronary heart disease have no traditional risk factors (e.g. hypertension, diabetes, high cholesterol, family history, stress, smoking, overweight, etc.).
Our Cardiovascular Risk Assessment provides comprehensive results from advanced screening and imaging services to predict and determine your risk for cardiovascular disease.
Cost: From $295
What’s included in a Cardiovascular Risk Assessment?
Advanced Cholesterol Test
Medcan is the only clinic in Canada to offer an Advanced Cholesterol Test.
Unlike a standard cholesterol test that only looks at 4 components of blood cholesterol, ACT examines 18 separate components and analyzes the risk for stroke and diabetes. ACT is also the only test that identifies the density of blood cholesterol; identifying the most dangerous forms.
How Cholesterol Clogs Your Arteries
ACT results enable our physicians to customized treatment by matching a drug or combination of drugs with a patient’s cholesterol profile. It also allows our physicians to monitor progress and alter the treatment plan accordingly.
Echocardiogram
This non-invasive test uses ultrasound technology to look at the anatomical structure of the heart. It identifies abnormalities in cardiac function and structure, including weakness of the heart muscle (risk for heart attack or cardiomyopathy) and valve disease (leaky or narrow).
Carotid Doppler
After the age of 55, the risk of stroke doubles every 10 years, therefore we’ve included a Carotid Doppler test. This non-invasive ultrasound measures the amount of blood flow in the carotid arteries (the major arteries in the neck that provide blood flow to the brain), looking for any abnormalities or blockages (stenosis) that may lead to a stroke.
