Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitor
This service is purchased on its own.
An ambulatory blood pressure monitor (ABPM) is used to assess your blood pressure control over a continuous 24-hour period. It automatically records your heart rate and blood pressure every 30 minutes during the day and every 1-2 hours overnight.
Cost: $100
The data is uploaded and analyzed digitally so that the results can be reviewed and assessed by your Medcan Physician.
Your Medcan Physician may recommend the use of an ambulatory blood pressure monitor for one or more of the following reasons:
- To determine whether your blood pressure dips normally at night (ABPM is the only method for assessing nocturnal blood pressure).
- To ensure that blood pressure medications are working appropriately around the clock.
- To ascertain whether symptoms experienced correlate with high or low blood pressure.
- To confirm “white coat” hypertension (when blood pressure rises in response to the stress of having it measured or being in a doctor’s office).
