Relationship Counselling is for couples looking to enhance their marriage or relationship. Using a proven counselling approach, a Medcan psychologist works with couples to help them better understand one another and rebuild a lifelong friendship, and partnership.
Relationship Counselling at Medcan begins with four consultation sessions:
- Initial 1.5-hour consultation to discuss key concerns
- Two 1-hour sessions with each partner independently
- 1-hour follow-up with both partners to discuss next steps and the need for additional sessions
At the end of the 4 sessions, you’ll have a customized program tailored to your needs, with clear action steps on ways to strengthen and nurture your bond.
Counselling Approach
Relationship Counselling is led by a Medcan registered psychologist with over 25 years of experience counselling couples and families. He uses the Gottman Method for couple’s therapy, one of the two largest comprehensive therapy options. It is an evidence-based counselling approach built on findings from over 3,000 couples that allows couples to:
- Become better friends
- Learn to manage conflict
- Create ways to support each other’s hopes by focusing on 9 components of healthy relationships
Through a series of exercises focused on building a “Sound Relationship House”, including building love maps together, sharing fondness of one another and taking a positive perspective, couples ultimately build trust and commitment.
