Client Education Event: The Latest in Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Skin Cancer
On May 9th, Dr. Patrick J. Byrne Director, Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, and Medcan's Dermatologist Dr. Paul Cohen presented the latest in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of skin cancer to Medcan clients at the Holt Renfrew Café.
This event marked the launch of Medcan's new Dermatology Centre specializing in medical and cosmetic dermatology for men and women.
Dr. Byrne and Dr. Cohen talked about the risk factors for skin cancer, including cumulative UV exposure, visiting tanning beds, smoking, and blistering sunburns. They also educated the audience on early melanoma detection and emphasized using a sunscreen with a minimum SPF 15.
Dr. Cohen also talked about a new service at Medcan called Mole Mapping for early detection of skin cancer. Mole Mapping provides a baseline tracking tool for detecting changes in the appearance of moles using a high security body photography system.
