Edward Bekeris, B. Eng, P. Eng, MSc(A), MD
Senior Medical ConsultantDr. Bekeris obtained his medical degree at the University of Western Ontario, clinical internship at St. Joseph's Hospital and Masters of Science (Applied) in Occupational Health at McGill University. He has been an emergency medicine physician, hospitalist and medical staff associate at William Osler Health Centre/Etobicoke General Hospital since 1992. Dr. Bekeris is a member of the Hospital's Disaster Response Committee. Dr. Bekeris has over 20 years experience in both the military (Senior Medical Officer/Flight Surgeon in the Canadian Armed Forces) and commercial aviation medicine fields. He was the former Chief Medical Officer, Air Canada (2004-2009) and previous Director, Regional Occupational Health Services, Air Canada (1992-2003). His role with the airline included providing healthcare support to pilots and flight crew in addition to oversight of preventive corporate health and safety programs including travel medicine. Dr. Bekeris is also an Aviation Medical Officer with Transport Canada and remains a Reserve Medical Officer for the Department of National Defence. His original professional work was as an aerospace engineer before specializing in aviation medicine. Dr. Bekeris is an appointed Civil Aviation Medical Examiner. He also has experience working in community health clinics with the Public Health Departments of Toronto (1992-2001) and North Bay (1987-1992). His areas of interest include preventive medicine.
