Meet Ben (30, Analyst)

Health and Wellness Goals: Ben wanted to improve his overall health, and avoid needing medication for high cholesterol and early signs of gout. He was also experiencing frequent headaches and low energy levels.

I was a 29-year-old committed to my job and making little time for grocery shopping or healthy lunches. I guess I shouldn’t have been surprised at my health results, but seeing the numbers was a shock. My levels were so high, I had six months to make an improvement or I’d be going on medication for my cholesterol levels.

Medcan Strategy: Through Nutrition Therapy, teach Ben the skills needed to balance meals and normalize the timing of meals. Provide guidance on meeting nutritional needs through food and supplements, while minimizing cravings for unhealthy foods during stressful and busy times.

Ben worked with a Medcan registered dietitian for eight sessions over 8 months to become knowledgeable about foods that were beneficial to his health, and foods that were harmful. Ben learned to eat consciously to support the body, not just to satisfy cravings. While some changes took a lot of willpower on Ben’s part, the dietitian provided strategies such as the types of food to eat and the timing of meals to ensure good nutrition while avoiding hunger.

My Medcan dietitian provided the knowledge base to make lasting changes in my diet and overall health. I would highly recommend spending time with a dietitian for those who want to make a change, but are unsure how to do it.

Ben says his body image has improved in spades and he has more pride in how he carries himself. Ben particularly enjoys the svelte look he sees now in his reflection when he wears his new tailored suits.

He’s also noticed a resurgence of energy, which helps him during his long hours at the office. Since creating new eating habits and losing weight, Ben says he is sleeping far better than before.

When it’s time to call it a night, both my wife and I are sleeping more soundly as my snoring has essentially disappeared. What I’ve learned at Medcan has added value to so many aspects of my life.
