The True Patriot Love Foundation
True Patriot Love Foundation was founded in 2009 by Shaun Francis (Chairman and CEO of the Medcan Clinic), along with a group of corporate leaders, to pay tribute to the quiet dedication and sacrifices of Canadian soldiers and their families.
In 2009 the True Patriot Love inaugural gala was Named “Gala of the Year” by the National Post. The event held on the eve of Remembrance Day raised over $2 million in support of Canadian military families.
The 2010 True Patriot Love tribute dinner raised a record $2.4 million for military families. The Medcan Clinic is a lead sponsor of the True Patriot Love Gala. Dignitaries such as Canada’s Chief of the Defence Staff General Walter Natynczyk, Lieutenant Governor David Onley and Minister of Defence Peter MacKay were in attendance.
Through fundraising efforts, the foundation supports the Military Families Fund, Solider On and other registered charities that quickly step in when the government is unable to assist military families faced with unforeseen and often immediate needs as a result of service, including rehabilitation, home modifications and financial assistance in the case of injury or loss of life. The money raised complements and enhances – but does not replace - existing public and non-public programs.
